Nov 28, 2014 · I've got 3 LB7/LLY broken cranks here. They all do it, but the LB7/LLY cranks have a little more weight to them so they are preferred if you're building the motor. I've been told that gm balances their gas motor cranks to 25 grams. To spin 6+k rpm reliably in those it should e balanced to less than 1 gram. FluidDampr is being installed on the new motor before it gets dropped in. After consulting with many folks who work on Duramaxes that seems to be the only common issue with broken cranks is the possibility that the balancer has gone bad. Hopefully will pull it and see what exactly went when I get the truck back.
